## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 5/20/2017, THE PILOT OF N2322Z WAS CONDUCTING AN INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT WITH A STUDENT. INSTRUCTION WAS BEING GIVEN ON HOVERING ON THE NORTH SIDE OF RUNWAY 9/27. THE INSTRUCTOR STATED THE HELICOPTER STARTED TO DRIFT AND HE WANTED TO POSITION IT OVER THE PAVEMENT. THE PILOT STATED THAT WHILE THE HELICOPTER WAS BEING REPOSITIONED, THE RIGHT SKID HIT AN UNKNOWN OBJECT AND EXPERIENCED A DYNAMIC ROLL OVER TO THE RIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE PAVEMENT ON IT'S RIGHT SIDE AND SUFFERED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17CA187](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17CA187), May 20, 2017: Robinson R22 (N2322Z), Linden, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor's failure to maintain helicopter control while hovering, which resulted in skid contact with the ground and a dynamic roll-over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
