## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING TAKEOFF FROM PRIVATE GRASS STRIP. PILOT STATED THAT HE LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WHEN THE TAIL WHEEL LIFTED. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED SHARPLY LEFT OFF THE RUNWAY AND IMPACTED TREE WITH LEFT WING CAUSING LEFT WING TO SEPARATE FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON ITS LEFT SIDE FACING APPROXIMATELY 100 DEGREES TO RUNWAY. APPROXIMATELY 90 FEET LEFT OF THE CENTERLINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA304](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA304), May 23, 2017: Maule MX7 (N888WF), Sidney, ME, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s delayed application of rudder and failure to maintain directional control during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
