## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

UA5588 WAS READY FOR PUSH BACK FROM GATE B1 WHEN THE COCKPIT CONTACTED THE DISPATCHER/PUSHBACK DRIVER AND INDICATED THERE WAS RAMP CONGESTION AND ASKED IF THEY COULD PUSH THE AIRCRAFT BACK FURTHER THAN NORMAL. THE DISPATCHER/PUSHBACK DRIVER INDICATED YES. THE BRAKES WERE RELEASED AND THE DRIVER STARTED THE PUSH WITH WING-WALKERS, AND A FEW SECONDS LATER CONTACT WAS MADE WITH THE NEIGHBORING AIRCRAFT, UA599. A LARGE PIECE OF THE RH WINGLET OF UA599 WAS SHEARED OFF AND THE LH WINGLET OF UA5588 IN SCUFFED AND BUCKLED; HOWEVER, PENDING HIDDEN DAMAGE INSPECTIONS, DAMAGE TO BOTH AIRCRAFT APPEARS TO BE NON-STRUCTURAL.

## Other aircraft in the event

- N151SY, Embraer S A ERJ-170-200LR: no report for this aircraft; [N151SY](https://openairdocs.org/aircraft/N151SY) is registered now

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
