## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING LANDING THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A WIND CHANGE AND DRIFTED OFF THE CENTERLINE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN IN THE GRAVEL/ GRASS AREA ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY NEAR THE APPROACH END. AIRCRAFT CONTINUED SWERVING TO THE LEFT FOR A SHORT TIME BEFORE STRIKING TREES AND COMING TO REST IN A WOODED AREA. PILOT STATES THAT DURING THE EVENT POWER WAS APPLIED TO CORRECT THE DRIFT AND SINK CAUSED BY THE WIND CHANGE BUT WAS INEFFECTIVE TO STOP THE EVENT ONCE IT STARTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA334](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA334), Jun 9, 2017: Piper PA28R (N32088), Geneva, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain a proper landing flare in variable wind conditions, which resulted in the airplane landing on the left edge of the runway and impacting trees.
