## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^ALAN CHANEY, ^THE PILOT IN COMMAND OF N7616R HAD INADVERTANTLY LEFT APPROXIMATELY 12 INCHES OF HIS SEATBELT TAIL HANGING OUT OF THE CLOSED AIRCRAFT DOOR PRIOR TO DEPARTING KFUL FOR A FLIGHT TO KCMA ON 06/11/2017. AFTER DEPARTING KFUL AT 15:46PST AND CLIMBING TO APPROXIMATELY 45OO', ^MR. CHANEY^ HEARD A LOUD CLANGING SOUND THAT HE ATTRIBUTED TO A POSSIBLE ENGINE PROBLEM. AS A PRECAUTION FOR AN UNKNOWN PROBLEM, ^MR. CHANEY^ DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND DIVERTED TO KLGB WHERE HE LANDED SAFELY AT 16:02PST. UPON THE END OF HIS TAXI TO ROSS AVIATION, IT WAS OBSERVED BY THE RESPONDING AIRPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT CAPTAIN THAT A LENGTH OF SEATBELT WAS HANGING OUT OF THE CLOSED AIRCRAFT DOOR. THE SEATBEL APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN SLAPPING THE FUSELAGE IN FLIGHT CAUSING THE METALLIC CLANGING NOISE HEARD BY ^MR. CHANEY^. NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
