## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 24, 2017, AT APPROXIMATELY 0748 EDT, N199PA, A PIPER PA28-18, TOOK OFF FROM PAGE FIELD (FMY) IN FT. MYERS, FLORIDA. THE AIRCRAFT, FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS, FAILED TO CLIMB AND SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED A TREE, FOLLOWED BY A BUILDING AND THEN TERRAIN WHILE ATTEMPTING AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON METRO PARKWAY JUST OUTSIDE THE AIRPORT PERIMETER. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT CONTACT ATC AFTER RECEIVING CLEARANCE TO TAKE OFF. THE PILOT, BY UNDETERMINED MEANS, EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AT OR SHORTLY AFTER IMPACT AND SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE PASSENGER, ALSO A CERTIFICATED PILOT, PERISHED IN THE ACCIDENT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DUE TO THE IMPACT AND POST IMPACT FIRE. THE FUSELAGE, EMPENNAGE, WINGS AND ENGINE WERE ALL HEAVILY DAMAGED BY THE POST IMPACT FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17FA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17FA210), Jun 24, 2017: Piper PA28 (N199PA), Fort Myers, FL, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power during initial climb for reasons that could not be determined because extensive fire damage precluded thorough examination of the engine and its associated systems.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
