## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROACHING GROVE AIRPORT FROM THE SOUTH EAST FOR A LANDING ON RUNWAY 36. WHILE IN A RIGHT TURN TO LINE UP ON FINAL APPROACH, THE ENGINE STARTED TO SPUTTER AND QUIT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE AIRCRAFT ON THE AUXILIARY TANK BUT WAS UNABLE. THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND IN A FIELD OFF HIS LEFT ON A WESTERLY HEADING. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 1.25 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE APPROACH END OF RUNWAY 36. WHILE LANDING THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A BARBED WIRE FENCE, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT WING SPARS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN17LA242](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN17LA242), Jun 25, 2017: Bellanca 17 30 (N14728), Grove, OK, substantial damage. Probable cause: An unporting of fuel in the right wing while maneuvering in the airport traffic pattern, which resulted in a partial loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

## Other reports on N14728 (1)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
