## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING TRAINING FLIGHT WITH CFI AND STUDENT. CFI INSTRUCTED STUDENT TO PICK AN OFF AIRPORT LANDING SITE FOR EMERGENCY LANDING. STUDENT SELECTED ROAD IN CLEAR CUT LOGGING AREA AND INITIATED APPROACH. DURING LATER STAGE OF APPROACH CFI STATED "IT DID NOT FEEL RIGHT'" AND ASSUMED CONTROL OF AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO YAW RIGHT, CFI APPLIED FORWARD CYCLIC. AIRCRAFT SPUN 1.5-2.0 TURNS BEFORE CFI ROLLED THROTTLE TO DETENT, AND PULLED COLLECTIVE JUST BEFORE AIRCRAFT SETTLED TO GROUND. AIRCRAFT ROLLED TO LEFT SIDE ON UNEVEN TERRAIN WHERE ROTOR IMPACTED GROUND. AIRCRAFT FUEL AND SWITCHES WHERE SELECTED OFF AND BOTH OCCUPANTS EXITED AIRCRAFT WITH NO INJURIES. CFI HAS SINCE VOLUNTARILY RESIGNED FROM FLYING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA376](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA376), Jun 30, 2017: Robinson Helicopter R22 (N8361N), Kelso, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor’s delayed remedial action, which resulted in a loss of helicopter control due to a loss of tail rotor effectiveness.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
