## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE CONDUCTING A CROSSWIND LANDING AT THE EAGLE GROVE, IOWA AIRPORT. THE AIRMAN LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT DURING TOUCHDOWN CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO GO OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED A RUNWAY LIGHT ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE RIGHT WING, PUNCTURING THE SKIN. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A REST IN THE TURF, RIGHT SIDE UP, WITH THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR DETACHED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA578](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA578), Jul 3, 2017: Columbia Aircraft Mfg LC41 (N711NN), Eagle Grove, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll in crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
