## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT LANDED FOR A REST STOP AT GREATER KANKAKEE AIRPORT (IKK). THERE WAS A CROSSWIND AND THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO TRACK TO THE RIGHT. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD SLOWED TO A SPEED SUCH THAT THE RUDDER WAS NOT EFFECTIVE. HE HAS 250 HOURS OF TIME SPENT FLYING HIS AERONCA CHAMP, WHICH HAS HEEL BRAKES. THE CESSNA A188B HAS TOE BRAKES. THE PILOT INSTICTIVELY POSITIONED HIS FEET TO APPLY HEEL BRAKES. BEFORE HE COULD REACT CORRECTLY, THE AIRPLANE HAD GROUNDLOOPED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA461](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA461), Jul 5, 2017: Cessna A188B (N4207J), Kankakee, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper landing flare, which resulted in a bounced landing, and his subsequent incorrect brake application, which led to the loss of directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
