## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DID NOT HAVE A STABILIZED APPROACH WHILE INTENDING TO LAND ON A RURAL AIRSTRIP. HE TOUCHED DOWN LONG AND THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO PORPOISE. REALIZING HE COULD NOT COMPLETE THE LANDING HE INCREASED POWER AND INITIATED A GO AROUND, THE AIRCRAFT RESPONDED NORMALLY. WHILE PREPARING TO MAKE ANOTHER LANDING, PERSONNEL ON THE GROUND NOTICED WHAT MIGHT BE PIECES OF A NOSE WHEEL PANT ON THE RUNWAY. NOT KNOWING IF THE PARTS WERE FROM HIS AIRCRAFT OR IF HIS LANDING GEAR WAS DAMAGED HE DIVERTED TO HIS HOME AIRPORT AFTER ASSESSING THE AIRCRAFT WAS PERFORMING NORMALLY. PRIOR TO LANDING AT MNV HE CONDUCTED A LOW PASS OVER THE RUNWAY WHERE AN OBSERVER INFORMED HIM THAT HIS NOSE LANDING GEAR APPEARED TO BE DAMAGED. HE CONFIGURED THE AIRCRAFT FOR LANDING, PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN HE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND POSITION THE PROPELLER HORIZONTALLY IN CASE THE NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED UPON TOUCHDOWN. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED NORMALLY AND CAME TO A STOP IN A NOSE LOW ATTITUDE. HE EXITED THE AIRCRAFT ON THE RUNWAY AND FOUND THE NOSE LANDING GEAR HAD COLLAPSED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED OFF THE RUNWAY AND INTO A HANGER. NO FURTHER DAMAGE WAS NOTED ON THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
