## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN DEPARTED NORTH CENTRAL AIRPORT (SFZ) THAT MORNING AND ARRIVED AT KATAMA AIRPARK (1B2) AT 0640 AM. THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS TO TAKE TWO PASSENGERS FROM 1B2 TO FRYBURG, MAINE (IZG) UNDER 14 CFR 135 ON-DEMAND OPERATIONS.

THE AIRMAN BACK-TAXIED ON RUNWAY 24 TO DEPART RUNWAY 6. WHILE HOLDING FOR IFR CLEARANCE, THE AIRPORT MANAGER DROVE AROUND THE AIRPORT TO TRY AND DISPERSE THE BIRDS THAT MAY BE PRESENT. THE AIRMAN BEGAN HIS TAKEOFF ON RUNWAY 6. JUST PRIOR TO ROTATION, HE SAW TWO GEESE POP OUT OF THE GRASS AND START FLYING TOWARD HIM. AT ROTATION, TWO GEESE IMPACTED THE FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT. ONE COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE PROPELLER AND THE SECOND HIT THE RIGHT WINDSHIELD. IN THE PROCESS, PARTS OF THE GOOSE DEFLECTED OFF THE RIGHT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO YAW TO THE RIGHT. THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR LEFT THE RUNWAY INTO THICK GRASS CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO SPIN 180 DEGREES. THE HARD TWIST CAUSED ALL THE MAIN GEAR TO SEVER FROM THE AIRFRAME AND THE AIRFRAME SPLIT JUST BEHIND THE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT.

THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST NEXT TO THE RUNWAY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE TWO PASSENGERS OR THE AIRMAN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA429](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA429), Jul 23, 2017: Cirrus Design SR22 (N831SR), Edgartown, MA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The airplane’s collision with geese during the takeoff roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
