## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT WITH CFI AND STUDENT PILOT. STUDENT PRE-ROTATED ROTOR TO 200 RPM, RELEASED BRAKES, AND BEGAN TAKEOFF ROLL. STUDENT DID NOT APPLY SUFFICIENT POWER; CFI PUSHED POWER CONTROL FORWARD. STUDENT REALIZED FRONT WHEEL WAS COMING UP, NOTICED HE WAS PULLING BACK ON STICK, PUSHED STICK FORWARD REGAINING CONTROL. THEN STUDENT PULLED BACK ON STICK AGAIN. AIRCRAFT BALLOONED UP, ROTATED TO THE LEFT.

THE ROTOR STRUCK, AIRCRAFT TURNED ON ITS LEFT SIDE. ROTOR, PROPELLER, AND CANOPY WERE DESTROYED.

BOTH REPORTED NO INJURIES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
