## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED HE DID NOT SET HIS APPROACH UP SOON ENOUGH FOR A GLASSY WATER LANDING, AS A RESULT THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE WATER HARD AND FLIPPED OVER CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA475](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA475), Aug 4, 2017: Cessna 180 (N5236D), Willow, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper landing flare while landing on water with glassy water conditions, which resulted in the airplane nosing over.

## Other reports on N5236D (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19780616015739A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19780616015739A), Jun 16, 1978: Cessna 182H (N5236D), AK, Substantial damage

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
