## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACCIDENT OCCURED DURING EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT'S MADIEN FLIGHT. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF AFTER DEPARTING RUNWAY AT AN ALTITUDE OF ABOUT 100-150 FEET ABOVE RUNWAY, PILOT STATED HE EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY LOWERING THE NOSE. WHILE THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL BY LOWERING THE AIRCRAFT, THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED HARD ON THE AREA JUST OFF THE AIRPORT UNIMPROVED SURFACE. PILOT RECEIVED INJURIES TO BOTH HIS HEAD AND HIS LEFT ARM. HIS INJURY REQUIRED SURGERY TO RELEAVE PRESSURE ON THE BRAIN. PILOT'S COGNITION DUE TO INJURIES PREVENTS OBTAINING HIS STATEMENT AT THIS TIME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR17LA181](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR17LA181), Aug 4, 2017: Rans S9 (N519TB), Athol, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of pitch attitude and ground proximity awareness, which resulted in an unintentionally steep initial climb and an overcorrection into a steep descent and ground impact.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
