## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS LANDING ON AN UNIMPROVED STRIP, LOCATED BETWEEN 6 TO 7 MILES SOUTHWEST OF MURPHY IDAHO.

THE LANDING DIRECTION WAS TO THE NORTHEAST WHICH HAD A SLIGHT DOWN HILL GRADIENT. PILOT REPORTED THAT WINDS WERE LIGHT AND VARIABLE.

APPROXIMANTELY 100 FT. FROM INITIAL TOUCH DOWN POINT ON THE LANDING STRIP, THE WHEELS CONTACTED A WATER BAR. (A WATER BAR IS A FLEXIBLE PIECE OF PLASTIC, IMBEDDED PARTIALLY IN THE LANDING STRIP THAT DIVERTS WATER TO HELP ALLEVIATE EROSION).

PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS APPLYING LIGHT BRAKE PRESSURE DURING THE LANDING ROLL OUT, BUT WHEN THE WHEELS CONTACTED THE WATER BAR, HE SHIFTED FORWARD IN HIS SEAT WHICH MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY CAUSED HIM TO APPLY ADDITIONAL BRAKE PRESSURE.

THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER THE TOP AND ON IT'S BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA496](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA496), Aug 19, 2017: MIke Reed Super Cub (N7677M), Murphy, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s use of excessive brake pressure during the landing roll, which resulted in a nose-over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
