## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT LANDED ON RUNWAY 18 AT SUN VALLEY AIRPORT NEAR FORT MOHAVE, ARIZONA.

DURING THE FLARE, JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN, PILOT STATED THAT HE ENCOUNTERED A STRONG GUST OF WIND THAT LIFTED THE AIRCRAFT UPWARD. THAT WHEN THE WIND SUBSIDED, THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED QUICKLY, RESULTING WITH THE NOSE GEAR IMPACTING THE RUNWAY AND DAMAGING THE PROPELLOR AND ENGINE MOUNT.

AN EXAMINATION OF THE RUNWAY SURFACE AND THE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED DAMGE PATTERN AND MARKS ON THE RUNWAY WHICH WERE CONSISTANT WITH THE FACTS PROVIDED BY THE PILOT.

A CHECK OF WEATHER DATA REVEALED MILD TO MODERATE WINDS FROM BULLHEAD CITY AIRPORT, LOCATED APPROXIMATELY TEN MILES TO THE NORTH.

PILOT WAS PROVIDED WITH COUNSELING REGARDING LANDING WITH WIND GUSTS.

THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE WHICH WAS PRIMARILY LIMITED TO THE PROPELLOR, ENGINE MOUNT AND NOSE WHEEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA503](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA503), Aug 19, 2017: Piper PA 28 (N536CA), Mohave, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper airspeed and pitch control during landing in variable, gusting wind conditions, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and hard landing.
