## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

1. AIRCRAFT WAS LEAKING OIL AND FUEL AT A SIGNIFICANT RATE OVERNIGHT.

2. PERSONNEL BROUGHT THE EXCESSIVE LEAKING TO THE PILOT?S ATTENTION.

3. PILOT CLAIMED THE LEAKING WAS RESIDUAL FROM RECENT WORK ON THE AIRCRAFT AND CLAIMED THE AIRCRAFT JUST HAD TWO NEW ENGINES INSTALLED ON THE AIRCRAFT.

4. PERSONNEL ADVISED THE PILOT TO SEEK MAINTENANCE FROM A MECHANIC ON THE FIELD.

5. PERSONNEL CLAIM THEY TOPPED OFF THE FUEL, EXCEPT FOR 2 INCHES ON THE LEFT, AT ABOUT 1330 LOCAL TIME.

6. KEEPING THE LEFT FUEL TANK 2 INCHES? LOW WAS AN ATTEMPT TO REDUCE THE FUEL LEAKAGE.

7. PILOT DEPARTED AND EXPERIENCED A LEFT ENGINE FAILURE.

8. PILOT BROUGHT LEFT THROTTLE TO IDLE AND FEATHERED THE LEFT PROPELLER, AND HAD HIGH POWER ON THE RIGHT ENGINE.

9. AIRCRAFT STRUCK A WOODEN POWER POLE ABOUT ONE-MILE SOUTH OF THE AIRPORT WITH THE RIGHT WING CAUSING SPARKS AND A FIRE, AND SEPARATION OF THE OUTBOARD PORTION OF THE WING.

10. INSPECTION SHOWED THE AIRCRAFT HAD 16 QUARTS OF SPARE OIL IN THE LEFT ENGINE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT IN ADDITION TO THREE FOUR SCATTERED ALONG THE DEBRIS PATH.

11. AIRCRAFT ALSO HAD TWO BATTERIES APPROXIMATELY 4?X9?X9?, AND A USED STARTER IN THE LEFT ENGINE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT.

12. TWO MORE BATTERIES WERE FOUND ALONG THE DEBRIS PATH, ONE WITH THE DIMENSIONS ABOVE AND ANOTHER THAT APPEARS TO BE A FULL SIZE AIRCRAFT BATTERY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR17LA187](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR17LA187), Aug 24, 2017: Cessna 310I (N8170M), Salt Lake City, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined based on the available information.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
