As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER LANDING AT THE PALATKA AIRPORT (28J THE CREW OBSERVED THAT THE ENGINE HAD STOPPED.

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RESTART ENGINE, SMOKE WAS OBSERVED OUTSIDE THE AIRCRAFT WHICH CAUSED THE CREW AND A PASSENGER TO EXITED THE AIRCRAFT.

A WORKING FIRE EXTINGUISHER WAS NOT AVAILABLE IN AIRCRAFT.

AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED WITH AN FBO EXTINGUISHER.

FIRE DAMAGE LIMITED TO ENGINE COMPARTMENT, ENGINE COMPONENTS, AND THE FIBERGLASS COWLING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17CA295](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17CA295), Aug 25, 2017: Piper PA 28-161 (N84175), Palatka, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's overpriming of the engine and the flight instructor's delayed remedial action, which resulted in an engine fire.

## Other reports on N84175 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19921111050519I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921111050519I), Nov 11, 1992: Piper PA28161 (N84175), Fallbrook, CA, Minor damage. Pilot departed end of runway on landing rollout.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
