## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 9/2/2017 AT AROUND 0900 LOCAL A PILOT AND HIS PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO TAKE OFF DOWNHILL AT HIS FAMILY FARMS UNAPPROVED GRASS STRIP. THE ENGINE MADE POWER AND THE AIRCRAFT BROKE GROUND AND REACHED 10 FEET IN ALTITUDE BEFORE THE PILOT NOTICED THE AIRCRAFT WAS SLOWLY GAINING ALTITUDE AND WOULDN'T CLEAR THE TREES AHEAD OF HIM. HE PULLED POWER AND IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE GROUND HARD ENOUGH TO DAMAGE BOTH LANDING GEAR AND BREAKING THE ENGINE LOWER MOUNTS OFF. THE AIRCRAFTS LEFT WING TIP STRUCK THE GROUND CAUSING THE WING SPAR TO TWIST. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A REST AFTER SKIDDING. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA545](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA545), Sep 2, 2017: Dedeaux Gary G GN-1 (N168BD), Elba, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's incorrect pitch control during the initial climb, which resulted in his decision to abort the takeoff and a subsequent hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
