## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON MONDAY, 4 SEPTEMBER 2017, AT APPROXIMATELY 0958 LOCAL TIME. THE PILOT WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT INCURRED MINOR DAMAGE. THE INCIDENT WAS A GEAR-UP LANDING WHICH OCCURRED ON RUNWAY 17 AT DECATUR MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, KLUD. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE PILOT AND WAS A 1969 MOONEY, M20E, N9134V, SERIAL NUMBER 690027.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE TYPICALLY FLIES LONGER DISTANCES, AND NOT A LOT OF PATTERN WORK. HE TYPICALLY GOES THROUGH A LANDING CHECKLIST (GUMPS) 5-10 MILES AWAY FROM THE DESTINATION AIRPORT. HE STATED THAT WHEN HE DOES PATTERN WORK, HE USUALLY LEAVES THE GEARS EXTENDED, IN ORDER TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT. THE PILOT STATED THAT DURING THE FLIGHT HE BECAME DISTRACTED WITH PLANNING FOR A CROSSWING LANDING WHEN ANOTHER AIRCRAFT WAS ALSO GETTING READY TO ENTER THE PATTERN.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE FORGOT TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR.

THE ON SCENE INVESTIGATION OF THE GEAR-UP LANDING REVEALED THAT THE AIRCRAFT, N9134V, WAS RESTING ON ITS BELLY AT DECATUR AIRPORT, TEXAS. THE AIRCRAFT INCURRED MINOR DAMAGED. THE LANDING GEARS WERE RETRACTED- NOT DAMAGED, THE PROPELLERS WERE DAMAGED, (BENT IN WARD) WHICH MIGHT INDICATE SUDDEN ENGINE STOPPAGE. THE FUSELAUGE AND AIRCRAFT WINGS WERE NOT DAMAGED. FLIGHT CONTROLS' CONTINUNITY CHECKS WERE NORMAL, THE VERTICAL STABILIZABLER WAS UNDAMAGED, AND THE RUDDER CONTROLS OPERATED SATISFACTORY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
