## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

BETWEEN 6:30 AND 6:40 PM WITNESSES OBSERVED AIRCRAFT PERFORMING AEROBATIC MANEUVERS. LAST MANEUVER WAS A HAMMER HEAD STALL, VERTICAL DESCENT AND THE AIRCRAFT DISAPPEARED BEHIND THE TERRAIN. UPON ARRIVAL THE AIRCRAFT WAS INVERTED FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL 35 FEET FROM INITIAL IMPACT POINT. IMPACT SITE WAS SOFT SAND. LEFT MAIN STRUCK FIRST MAKING THE RIM OVAL IN SHAPE. NOSE WHEEL WAS FOUND IN THE SAME CONDITION, BOTH DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT UPON STRIKING. THE RIGHT MAIN WAS SLIGHTLY DAMAGED. THE AIRCRAFT NOSE DUG INTO THE SAND CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP. PROPELLER WAS A THREE BLADE SYSTEM WITH ONE BLADE BROKEN OFF AT THE HUB. A SECOND BLADE WAS BROKEN OFF APPROXIMATELY 4 INCHES FROM THE TIP AND THE THIRD WAS CRACKED AT ABOUT THE SAME LOCATION OF THE SECOND BREAK. THE PROPELLER SHOWED NO SIGNS OF POWER BEING APPLIED. CONFORMITY OF ALL FLIGHT CONTROLS WERE FOUND TO BE INTACT. THE THROTTLE CABLE WAS FOUND TO BE RETRACTED TO THE IDLE POSITION AND BENT FROM IMPACT FORCES. FUEL TANKS SHOWED APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART IN EACH SIDE. FUEL LINES FROM THE TANKS TO THE CARBURETORS HAD FUEL IN THEM. BOTH CARBURETORS HAD FUEL IN THEM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN17FA342](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN17FA342), Sep 10, 2017: Rans S-6 (N112CD), Stonewall, TX, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain terrain clearance while conducting aerobatic flight maneuvers with insufficient altitude to recover.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
