## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC WEATHER REPORTING SYSTEM AT SANTA YNEZ WAS OUT OF SERVICE. TO GET WIND INFORMATION THE PILOT OVERFLEW THE AIRPORT AND NOTED THE WINDSOCK TO FAVOR RUNWAY 26.

THE PILOT NOTED GUSTY WINDS ON BASE TO FINAL. THE APPROACH WAS STABLE UNTIL TOUCH DOWN WHEN THE WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION CHANGED. THIS CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO BOUNCE ONCE THEN HIT HARD. THIS CAUSED THE LANDING GEARS TO BREAK, THE AIRCRAFT THEN SLID OFF TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA538](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA538), Sep 11, 2017: Czech Aircraft Works Spol Sro Sportcruiser (N4465F), Santa Ynez, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper landing flare in gusting wind conditions, which resulted in a hard, bounced landing.

## Other reports on N4465F (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 20150926023449I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20150926023449I), Sep 26, 2015: Czech Aircraft Works Spol Sro SPORTCRUISER (N4465F), Van Nuys, CA, Minor damage. Porpising during incident aircraft landing resulted in damage to nose gear.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
