## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2017 AT APPROXIMATELY 1642 CST, THE PILOT OF A PIPER PA-46, REPORTED A LARGE BIRD HAD STRUCK THE LEFT WING/FLAP SURFACE OF THE AIRCRAFT WHILE ON APPROACH TO RUNWAY 17L OF WILEY POST AIRPORT LOCATED IN BETHANY, OKLAHOMA. AFTER STRIKING THE BIRD, THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE THE APPROACH AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INCIDENT. GROUND INSPECTION REVEALED THE BIRD FIRST HIT THE LEFT WING LEADING EDGE AND THEN THE LEFT FLAP. NO DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO LEFT WING BUT THE LEFT FLAP WAS DENTED/DAMAGED TO THE POINT WHERE THE LEFT FLAP REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. ESTIMATED COST OF FLAP REPLACEMENT IS APPROXIMATELY $11,000.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
