## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACCORDING TO THE STATEMENT FROM THE PILOT: PILOT MADE A NORMAL APPROACH INTO FALWELL AIRPORT WITH EXTRA SPEED. PILOT BALLOONED THE AIRCRAFT DURING TOUCHDOWN. PILOT THEN EXECUTED A GO-AROUND BY ADDING FULL POWER WHILE MAINTATING POSITIVE CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT'S PERFORMANCE

COULD NOT MEET THE NEEDED CLIMB RATE BASED ON THE RUNWAY GRADIENT AND OBSTACLE REQUIREMENTS. HE DECIDED HE WOULD NOT CONTINUE THE GO AROUND AND PULLED OUT THE POWER AND STALLED THE AIRCRAFT ONTO THE GROUND CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE WINGS, PROPELLER, ENGINE, AND LANDING GEAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA540](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA540), Sep 16, 2017: Cessna 172 (N5396D), Lynchburg, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's unstabilized approach, which resulted in an aborted go-around, an aerodynamic stall, and a hard landing.
