## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT FLEW TO THE CACHE CREEK GRAVEL STRIP WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES WEST OF TALKEETNA, ALASKA. THE WINDS WERE GUSTING ABOUT 10 KNOTS FROM THE NORTHEAST AS A NEAR 90 DEGREE CROSSWIND TO THE STRIP, SET UP FOR CROSSWIND LANDING, USED THREE NOTCHES OF FLAPS, TOUCHED DOWN ON MAIN GEAR, TWO SMALL BOUNCES, DURING THE ROLLOUT THE AIRCRAFT WEATHERVANED TO THE LEFT, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED ONTO THE SOFTER SHOULDER CAUSING IT TO TIP ONTO ITS LEFT WING TIP AND LEFT HORIZONTAL TAIL, NO PROP STRIKE, NO INJURIES TO PILOT OR THREE PASSENGERS, AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AND WAS HELICOPTERED OFF THE CACHE CREEK STRIP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA539](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA539), Sep 17, 2017: Cessna A185 (N123LR), Talkeetna, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control while landing in gusting wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
