## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT A PRIVATE AIRPORT IN DARLINGTON, SC AIRPORT KNOWN AS HICKS FIELD.

THE PILOT MADE A LOW PASS OVER THE 700 FOOT RUNWAY TO EVALUATE THE FIELD CONDITION. ONCE THE PILOT DETERMINED THAT A LANDING WOULD BE SAFE HE MADE A GO AROUND TO STAY IN THE PATTERN FOR A LANDING. ON THE CLIMB THE ENGINE QUIT AND THE PILOT INTENTIONALLY MADE A STALL TO CUSHION THE AIRCRAFT IN THE TOP OF THE PINE TREES, HOWEVER THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER BETWEEN THE TREES AND CAME TO REST INVERTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA17LA334](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA17LA334), Sep 24, 2017: Mcmillan Joel L Avid SW 65 (N65SW), Darlington, SC, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation as a result of a clogged fuel filter.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
