## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE ON BASE LEG FOR LANDING AT WOODCREST FARMS AIRSTRIP THE PILOT MANUVERED TO AVOID A FLOCK OF BIRDS. ONE LARGE BIRD IMPACTED A WIRE WHICH PROVIDES BOTH AIRCRAFT CONTROL AND WING SUPPORT. THIS CAUSED A CONTROLLABILITY ISSUE. THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE RUNWAY AND LANDED HARD AND SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA17CA553](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA17CA553), Sep 24, 2017: Aerotrike Safari (N7675K), Bridgeton, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper landing flare, which resulted in a hard landing while conducting an off-airport precautionary landing after a bird strike.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
