## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON CLIMB OUT AFTER TAKEOFF, THE PILOT NOTED A SURGE IN THE ENGINE FOLLOWED BY A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. HE WAS ABLE TO MANUEVER THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO THE RUNWAY FROM WHICH HE DEPARTED AND LANDED SUCCESSFULLY. WHEN EXITING THE AIRCRAFT, HE NOTED FLAMES COMING FROM THE COWLING NOSE BOWL. HE WAS ABLE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH THE PORTABLE EXTINGUISHER HE HAD ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
