## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON TAKEOFF ROLL, WHEN THE PILOT RAISED THE TAIL THE AIRCRAFT HAD NO RUDDER AUTHORITY. AIRCRAFT WEATHER-VANED VEERED TO THE LEFT, CAUSING THE BOTTOM OF THE RIGHT WING TO IMPACT A PASI LIGHT ON THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE IMPACT OF THE LIGHT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING, INCLUDING THE MAIN SPAR, FUEL TANK, AND ELEVATOR. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA014](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA014), Oct 14, 2017: Himsl Vincent S Vans RV-8 (N8432), Othello, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the takeoff roll in crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
