## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N 5159U, A C172 RG FROM CREST AIRPARK, LANDED WITH OUT THE GEAR FULLY EXTENDED AT AUBURN MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (S50). THE FLIGHT WAS A 141 TRAINING FLIGHT AND A CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND PRIVATE RATED STUDENT WERE ON BOARD. DURING THE PHONE CALL THE INSTRUCTOR WAS ASKED IF THEY USED A PRE-LANDING CHECK LIST OR OTHER TYPE OF CHECK TO ENSURE THE GEAR WAS DOWN, INSTRUCTOR REPLIED THAT THEY GOT DISTRACTED BY THE MANUEVER AND DID NOT. BASED ON PHOTOS FROM THE SCENE THE NOSE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED AND THE MAIN GEAR WERE FOLDED UNDER THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO HORIZONTAL STABILIZER, ELEVATOR AND RIGHT WING TIP. THE INSTRUCTOR ALSO STATED THAT THE LANDING GEAR CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS TRIPPED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA013](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA013), Oct 15, 2017: Cessna 172RG (N5159U), Auburn, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the right main landing gear for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination did not reveal any anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
