ACCIDENT PILOT WAS A NEW AND INEXPERIENCED PILOT (APPX 175 HOURS TOTAL TIME), AS WELL AS INEXPERIENCED TO FLYING IN ALASKA (MOVED TO ALASKA IN APRIL OF 2017) AND DEALING WITH RAPIDLY CHANGING WEATHER. WEATHER WAS FOGGY AND CHANGING RAPIDLY THROUGHOUT THE DAY. ACCIDENT PILOT WAS SUPPOSED TO FLY WITH ANOTHER AIRCRAFT, HOWEVER, ACCIDENT PILOT ADDED MORE FUEL TO HIS AIRCRAFT AND TOOK OFF APPX 20 MINUTES AFTER OTHER AIRCRAFT. ACCIDENT PILOT BEING VERY UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS AREA AND NOT BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER AIRCAFT, GOT LOST. NO FURTHER COMMUNICATIONS WERE HEARD FROM ACCIDENT PILOT. ACCIDENT SITE WAS NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL AFTERNOON OF OCTOBER 17, 2017.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC18FA003](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC18FA003), Oct 16, 2017: Cessna 210 (N8347Z), Russian Mission, AK, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to continue visual flight into instrument meteorological conditions, which resulted in spatial disorientation and a subsequent loss of control.

## Other reports on N8347Z (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.
