## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PRIVATE PILOT HAD PERFORMED SEVERAL TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS AT KLHQ AIRPORT. WHILE ON DOWNWIND FOR ANOTHER LANDING THE PILOT APPLIED CARBURETOR HEAT, SET FLAPS 10, TURNED FUEL BOOST PUMP ON, AND WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REDUCE POWER TO 1500 RPM THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. THROTTLE WAS UNRESPONSIVE AND AN ATTEMPTED RESTART WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY LANDED IN A CUT BEAN FIELD APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE WEST OF KLHQ AIRFIELD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT SUBSTANTIAL STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN18LA036](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN18LA036), Nov 8, 2017: Piper PA 28-180 (N10GJ), Carroll, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power due to carburetor icing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
