## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON RIGHT BASE, TURNING FINAL, FOR RUNWAY 36, WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE BIG STAR CATTLE RANCH. IT IS A 2400 FOOT, ASPHALT, PRIVATE, UNREGISTERED, ROAD STRIP APPROXIMATELY 11.35 MILES NNE OF CALDWELL, TEXAS / 8 MILES SSW OF CORPORA AIRPORT (1TE5). DURING THE INTERVIEW THE PIC DESCRIBED THAT IT APPEARED HE WAS OVERSHOOTING THE RUNWAY AND INCREASED HIS "RIGHT BASE" BANK OF TURN. THIS SEEMED TO CAUSE A SIDE SLIPPING WHILE LOSING ALTITUDE. HE APPLIED POWER BUT HIS RIGHT WING CAUGHT A TREE WHICH SPUN THE VEHICLE INTO THE GROUND AND SURROUNDING BRUSH AREAS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA061](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA061), Nov 23, 2017: Luscombe 8 (N1780K), Caldwell, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain yaw control and the exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack in the traffic pattern, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall/spin.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
