## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 26, 2017 AT APPROXIMATELY 1400 CDT, THE PIPER PA-32R-300 WAS INVOLVED IN AN INCIDENT INVOLVING THE FAILURE OF THE UPPER ENGINE COWLING DURING A FLIGHT FROM BEULAH ND (95D) TO FARGO ND (FAR). WHILE ON DESCENT AND LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES WEST OF FAR (6300 FT. AND AT 146 KTS) MOST OF THE UPPER ENGINE COWLING WAS LIBERATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER, WINDSCREEN AND STABILATOR. ONLY A NARROW PIECE OF THE UPPER COWLING WAS STILL ATTACHED TO THE LOWER COWL BY THE TWO FASTENERS ON THE PILOT?S SIDE.

THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND WAS ABLE TO LAND AT FAR WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.

THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. NO EVIDENCE OF A BIRD STRIKE WAS NOTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
