## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER ROTATION, AS AIRCRAFT WAS CLIMBING THE CANOPY OPENED. PILOT MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE SAME RUNWAY AS JUST DEPARTED. AT LEAST ONE OF THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND AIRCRAFT CAUGHT FIRE ON THE GROUND. AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED IN FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA077](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA077), Dec 9, 2017: Czech Sport Aircraft a.s. Sport Cruiser (N227US), Sacramento, CA, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper landing flare, which resulted in a hard landing. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s failure to securely lock the canopy before takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
