## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON DECEMBER 27, 2017, THE CREW OF N525KT, A CESSNA 525A AIRCRAFT, DEPARTED DUPAGE AIRPORT (KDPA), ILLINOIS, FOR MICHIGAN CITY MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (KMGC), INDIANA. THE FLIGHT WAS A PART 91 REPOSITIONING FLIGHT TO PICK UP THE AIRCRAFT OWNER AND CONTINUE TO THE FINAL DESTINATION OF NEW CASTLE AIRPORT, DELAWARE (KILG).

THE CREW FILED AN INSTRUMENT FLIGHT RULES (IFR) FLIGHT PLAN AND RECEIVED THEIR WEATHER BRIEF ONLINE. THE WEATHER REPORT AT KMGC RECEIVED AT THE TIME OF FILING (APPROXIMATELY 0612L) WAS BROKEN CLOUDS AT 1300? AGL, LIGHT SNOW, 3SM VISIBILITY, WINDS 290 DEGREES AT 05 KNOTS. THE NEAREST FORECAST AT SOUTH BEND AIRPORT (KSBN) WAS FOR OVERCAST CLOUDS AT 1500? AGL, 1 1/2SM VISIBILITY WITH LIGHT SNOW AND MIST, WITH TEMPORARY CONDITIONS OF BROKEN CLOUDS AT 2000? AGL AND 3SM VISIBILITY. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED KDPA AT APPROXIMATELY 0620L.

ENROUTE TO KMGC, THE CREW CHECKED THE WEATHER AND ELECTED TO FLY THE RNAV RWY 20 APPROACH. THE APPROACH WAS UNEVENTFUL, THOUGH THE PIC DID COMMENT THAT THEY DISCUSSED NOT LETTING THE AIRCRAFT FLOAT AND TO BEWARE THE PRECISION APPROACH PATH INDICATOR (PAPI) WAS LISTED IN THE NOTICES TO AIRMEN (NOTAMS) AS UNUSABLE. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN APPROXIMATELY 500-700 FEET BEYOND THE THRESHOLD (700-900 FEET OF PAVEMENT). THERE WAS LIGHT SNOW ON THE RUNWAY. THE SECOND IN COMMAND, WHO WAS THE PILOT FLYING IN THE LEFT SEAT, BEGAN TO BRAKE BUT DID NOT NOTICE ANY RESPONSE. HE STATED THIS TO THE PIC AND THE PIC ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, BUT DID NOT NOTICE THE AIRCRAFT SLOWING AS EXPECTED. THE PIC THEN CALLED FOR A REJECTED LANDING AND BROUGHT THE THROTTLES TO FULL POWER. THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO ROTATE AS IT DEPARTED THE PREPARED SURFACE, WENT THROUGH THE AIRPORT FENCE, AND CROSSED THE ROAD SOUTH OF THE AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 300 YARDS OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
