## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED HE DID NOT HAVE ANY MECHANICAL DIFFICULTY WITH AIRCRAFT AND WHILE PERFORMING A PRACTICE AUTO ROTATION INTO A VACANT FIELD, MISMANAGED THE LANDING CONTACTING THE LEFT SKID FIRST ON THE GROUND CAUSING THE HELICOPTER TO ROLL OVER. THE LANDING SITE WAS ADJACENT TO A HOUSING DEVELOPMENT ON THE ST. JOHN RIVER AND APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES NORTH OF JACKSONVILLE CRAIG AIRPORT (KCRG). THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA159](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA159), Mar 10, 2018: Hughes 269 (N9020M), Jacksonville, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain rotor rpm during a practice autorotation, which resulted in ground contact and a dynamic rollover.

## Other reports on N9020M (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19830318008889A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830318008889A), Mar 18, 1983: Hughes 269A (N9020M), St Petersburg, FL, Substantial damage. Right skid hit rough ground during a practice hover. Helicopter entered dynamic rollover phase and rolled over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
