## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DECIDED TO USE GRASS RUNWAY (TURF). SPRING TIME AND THE DAY HAD WARMED UP CREATING WET / SOFT RUNWAY CONDITIONS. WHEN PILOT REALIZED PERFORMANCE WAS HAMPERED BY CONDITIONS, THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH RUNWAY LEFT TO GET AIRCRAFT STOPPED. AIRCRAFT IMPACTED SNOW BERM AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY WITH MAIN GEAR. AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER ONTO ITS BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA166](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA166), Mar 12, 2018: Cessna 140 (N2011N), Madison, SD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor’s delayed aborted takeoff on a soft, wet, grass runway, which resulted in a runway overrun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
