## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 03/24/2018 N1517H CONTACTED POWER LINES. BEFORE LANDING PILOT LEARNED THAT PRIMARY LANDING SITE FIELD HAD BEEN ROPED OFF DUE TO AN EASTER EGG HUNT AND HAD TO USE HIS ALTERNATE LANDING SITE WHICH WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SHOPPING CENTER. AS PILOT FLEW OVER AND BEGAN HIS DECENT HE SAW THE POWER LINES AS HE PASSED OVER THE SHOPPING CENTER. HE USED BOTH BURNERS TO TRY TO CLEAR THE POWER LINES BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO CLEAR THEM WHICH RESULTED IN THE BASKET MAKING CONTACT WITH THE POWER LINES. THE BASKET AND BALLOON WENT STRAIGHT DOWN ONCE CONTACT WAS MADE FOR A HARD LANDING. THIS RESULTED IN THE 2 PASSENGERS BEING TRANSPORTED TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA18LA116](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA18LA116), Mar 24, 2018: Lindstrand Balloons 105A (N1517H), Wesley Chapel, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate clearance from powerlines during landing approach, which resulted in an inflight collision with the powerlines.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
