## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE DESCENDING THRU FL 220 INTO DCA, THE FLIGHT CREW NOTICED THE SMELL OF SMOKE. THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS WERE ASKED IF THEY HAD SMELLED THE ODOR. SINCE THEY WERE BOTH IN THE AFT GALLEY, THE IN-CHARGE FA MOVED TO THE FORWARD GALLEY AND REPORTED TO THE CAPTAIN THAT SHE DID SMELL THE SMOKE.

IT WAS AT THIS TIME THE CAPTAIN NOTICED SMOKE AROUND THE F/O?S FEET AND THEN THE WINDSHIELD. O2 MASKS WERE DONNED, AN EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED AND THE FLIGHT DIVERTED TO IAD.

AIRCRAFT LANDED ON 19R AND STOPPED ON THE RUNWAY WITH THE PASSENGERS BEING EVACUATED VIA THE MAIN DOOR ESCAPE SLIDES - 1 L&R AND 2R.

THERE WERE TWO MINOR INJURIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE EVACUATION:

* AN ADULT WAS TRANSPORTED TO RESTON HOSPITAL FOR STRESS.

* A MINOR CHILD WAS TREATED FOR SCRAPES AND BRUISES BY AIRPORT FIRE AND RESCUE PERSONNEL AND RELEASED AT THE SCENE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
