## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT INVOLVED WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED ON TAKE-OFF WHEN THE RIGHT WING STRUCK A TREE 110 FEET EAST AND 350 FEET NORTH OF THE DEPARTURE END OF THE GRASS RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST 250 FEET FROM THE TREE. THE PILOT SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES. THE INDIVIDUAL IDENTIFIED AS THE PILOT IN COMMAND DOES NOT HOLD PILOT CERTIFICATION TO OPERATE THIS AIRCRAFT NOR DOES HE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE IN THE EXPERIMENTAL LIGHT SPORT AIRCRAFT INVOLVED IN THIS ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN18LA137](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN18LA137), Apr 5, 2018: Quicksilver GT 400 (N2433Z), Maxwell, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The noncertificated pilot's unfamiliarity with the airplane, which resulted in a loss of airplane control when the pilot encounter a wind gust.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
