## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATEMENT:

ON INITIAL APPROACH TO LANDING GOOD LINE UP, GOOD ALTITUDE, FULL TRIM FULL FLAPS. AS APPROACHED END OF RUNWAY, IT APPEARED A BIT LOW. ADDED A LITTLE POWER WITH MINIMAL RESPONSE, ADDED CONSIDERABLE MORE POWER WHICH WITH FULL TRIM IN THAT AIRCRAFT CAUSED A SUDDEN NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE AND A SUDDEN SLIP TO THE RIGHT WITH IMPACT ON RIGHT SIDE OF GRAVEL. THE OCCUPANTS EXITED THE AIRCRAFT, WHICH THEN IMMEDIATELY CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA214](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA214), Apr 9, 2018: Cessna 170 (N4133V), Big Lake, AK, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot’s exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
