## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT USED HIGHER THAN USUAL AIRSPEED ON LANDING APPROACH IN GUSTY CROSSWIND CONDITIONS. AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN LONG RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL. PILOT REPORTED TOO FAR DOWN RUNWAY TO DO GO-AROUND. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE END OF THE RUNWAY IN A SMALL DITCH. PILOT REPORTED RIGHT FOOT TRAPPED BETWEEN THE TOP BAR AND BREAK PEDAL AS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA218](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA218), Apr 15, 2018: Piper PA 28-161 (N8115Y), Pensacola, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of directional control and long landing in gusting wind conditions due to his shoe getting stuck on the brakes.

## Other reports on N8115Y (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19801206087309I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19801206087309I), Dec 6, 1980: Piper PA28161 (N8115Y), New Bedford, MA, Minor damage. Taxiing aircraft struck parked aircraft. Pilot operated brakes improperly.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
