## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON APRIL 15, 2108 AT APPROXIMATELY 06:30 LOCAL TIME N107PW A AIRBORNE WINDSPORTS EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT LOST CONTROL MAKING AN EMERGENCY LANDING WHILE IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN AT PLEASANT VALLEY GLIDER PORT (P48). THE PIC OF N107PW WHILE IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN NOTICED AN UN-COMMANDED ROLL TO THE RIGHT, AFTER LEVELING OFF THIS ROLL TO THE RIGHT BECAME MORE EVIDENT. PIC ELECTED TO BEGIN AN IMMEDIATE DECENT FOR LANDING, PIC REPORTED THE STABILITY OF THE AIRCRAFT FURTHER DECREASED WHILE ON FINAL APPROACH AT APPROXIMATELY 250 FEET AND 40 KNOTS THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN AN UN-COMMANDED RIGHT ROLL. THE PIC INDICATES THAT IF FELT AS IF THE AIRCRAFT STALLED, HE ADDED FULL POWER AND PULLED BACK ON THE BAR (NOSE DOWN) AND PERFORMED A ?J-MOVEMENT? WITH THE BAR TO ARREST THE RIGHT ROLL AS THE AIRCRAFT NEARED THE SURFACE THE ROLL BEGAN TO CORRECT BUT NOT BEFORE THE RIGHT WING IMPACTED THE GROUND.

AFTER IMPACT, THE COCKPIT PANEL HAD SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT, WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING THE PIC AND WITNESS THAT CAME TO ASSIST COULD NOT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. ONE OF THE WITNESS PULLED THE PARACHUTE HANDLE (THINKING IT WAS A FUEL CUT OFF) AND ACTIVATED THE PARACHUTE EJECTION ROCKET. NO ONE WAS INJURED BY THE PARACHUTE DEPLOYMENT AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF EVENTUALLY DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION. PIC RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES TO HIS LEFT KNEE AND RIGHT CALF.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
