## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED THE FLIGHT WAS FROM LAKELAND, FL. (LAL) TO ORLANDO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (ORL) IN ORLANDO, FL. PILOT WAS HAVING RADIO AND TRANSPONDER ISSUES BUT DID CONTACT THE TOWER 3 MILES OUT AND GOT CLEARANCE FOR RUNWAY 7 AND ANOTHER AIRCRAFT DID ACKNOWLEDGE HIS LOCATION DURING RADIO ISSUES WITH TOWER AT ORL AIRPORT. PILOT STATED THE WINDS WERE 7 KNOTS OUT OF THE NORTH ACCORDING TO METARS. WHILE LANDING ON RUNWAY 7 THERE WAS A GUST OF WIND THAT MADE THE LEFT WING RISE CAUSING THE RIGHT WING TO ALMOST CONTACT THE GROUND. WHILE TRYING TO CORRECT THE AIRCRAFT LANDING IT FELT AS IF THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED CAUSING THE RIGHT WING TO CONTACT THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY 7 WITH THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING SPAR AND RIGHT AILERON. PILOT REPORTED NO INJURIES. THERE IS DARK SKID MARK ON RUNWAY 7 AT THE TIME OF LANDING. THE SKID MARK TURNS HARD TO THE LEFT DURING LANDING THE AIRCRAFT. THIS SKID MARK IS EVIDENCE OF A GROUND LOOP SITUATION CAUSING AN EXCESSIVE SIDE LOAD ON THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR. THE HARD LEFT TURN AND GROUND LOOP CAUSED THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND TIRE TO COLLAPSE UNDER THE AIRCRAFT AND SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING SPAR AND RIGHT AILERON. THE RIGHT AND LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR STRUTS WERE BENT AND DAMAGED FROM THE COLLAPSE. PILOT STATED THERE WERE NO MECHANICAL ISSUES WITH THE AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME OF LANDING. PILOT STATED THE RADIO AND TRANSPONDER ISSUES DID NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA219](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA219), Apr 17, 2018: Stone James R Daytona Cubs Replica (N3102Z), Orlando, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain lateral control during landing in crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
