## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 6, 2018, AT APPROXIMATELY 1030, A PRIVATE PILOT RECEIVING TAILWHEEL TRAINING IN AN AERONCA 7AC (N83581), LANDED ON RUNWAY 15 AT WARRENTON FAUQUIER AIRPORT (HWY) VA, CAME TO ALMOST A FULL STOP, THEN ADDED POWER. AS THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO CLIMB 5-10 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, THE RIGHT WING WENT DOWN. THE PILOT ADDED LEFT STICK, WHICH DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A FULL STOP ABOUT 400 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF RUNWAY 15. THE PILOT AND FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR SUSTAINED NO INJURIES. AT THAT TIME, THE STATE POLICE AND FAA WERE NOTIFIED.

AN INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING, LANDING GEAR, AND PROPELLER. A FLIGHT CONTROL CONTINUITY CHECK INDICATED NO ANOMALIES. ALL MAINTENANCE INSPECTIONS WERE CURRENT AS OF MAY 2018.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA257](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA257), May 6, 2018: Aeronca 7AC (N83581), Warrenton, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain adequate airspeed and his exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack during the takeoff initial climb, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.
