## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN FROM LUNKEN AIRPORT, CINCINNATI, OH (KLUK) TO GAINESVILLE, GA (KGVL) ON MAY 6, 2018. THE FLIGHT WAS CLEARED FOR A VISUAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 29 AT GAINESVILLE. WHILE TURNING BASE TO FINAL THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED MODERATE TURBULENCE. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT THE WINDS WERE REPORTED 310@25G35. THE PILOT DECIDED TO USE A FINAL APPROACH SPEED OF 100 KNOTS AND LIMIT FLAPS TO THE APPROACH SETTING. DURING THE FLARE THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE RUNWAY UNEXPECTEDLY. THE PILOT INITIATED A GO-AROUND AND ADDED FULL POWER. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE RUNWAY A SECOND TIME AND THE PILOT CONTINUED THE GO-AROUND. THE PILOT THEN DECIDED TO DIVERT TO WINDER, GA (KWDR). THE LANDING AT WINDER WAS NORMAL. UPON EXITING THE RUNWAY THE PILOT NOTICED THAT THE NOSE WHEEL WAS FLAT. A LOCAL MECHANIC REPAIRED THE NOSE WHEEL AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS FLOWN BACK TO KLUK. THE PILOT DID NOT NOTICE THE DAMAGE UNTIL THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLEANED SEVERAL DAYS LATER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA18CA304](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA18CA304), May 6, 2018: Beech 58 (N406PA), Gainesville, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain a proper landing flare in gusting crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
