## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N838A DEPARTED THE SPURWICK FARM AIRFIELD (TURF) IN CAPE ELIZABETH, MAINE, FOR A VFR FLIGHT ALONG THE COAST OF MAINE. OVER THE PHIPPSBURG, MAINE AREA PIC NOTICED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT COWING FASTENER HAD COME UNDONE. PILOT DECIDED TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING ON POPHAM BEACH TO FIX THE COWLING. PILOT ELECTED TO LAND ON THE BEACH, THE INITIAL CONTACT POINT APPEARED TO BE ON FIRM SAND, AS THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED, THE SAND BECAME SOFTER AND THE FRONT WHEELS SANK IN SOFT SAND. THE TAIL LIFTED OFF THE GROUND AND THE NOSE CONTACTED THE SAND. THE AIRCRAFT ENDED UP ON IT'S BACK.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
