## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 11, 2018. AT APPROXIMATELY 11.00 AM, A PILOT WAS FLYING IN WHITT, TEXAS, WHEN HE EXPERIENCED ENGINE FAILURE WHILE ON A LOCAL VFR FLIGHT, BETWEEN MINERAL WELLS AIRPORT (KMWL) AND BRIDGEPORT MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (KXBP). HE STATED THAT HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND FELT A HEAVY VIBRATION THROUGHTOUT THE AIRFRAME. THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE RPM DROPPED, THE WINDSHIELD WERE COVER WITH OIL, THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE STARTED FLUCTUATING AND SUDDENLY THE PROPELLER STOP TURNING. HE IMMEDIATELY TURN THE AIR PLANE TO THE SOUTH AND EXECUTED A FORCED LANDING IN A COW PASTURE (FIELD). PASSENGER ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT: ONE. NUMBER OF INJURIES: NONE, AND AIRCRAFT DAMAGE: NONE.

THE FAA IIC ON SCENE EVALUATION REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: THE AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR AND FLIGHT CONTROLS CONTINUITY CHECKS WERE GOOD. HOWEVER, THE #3 ENGINE PISTON CONNECTING ROD BROKE CAUSING A HOLE IN THE CRANKCASE. THE ENGINE LOSS POWER AND CAME TO A SUDDEN STOPPAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
